58 - Meagan Flannigan - Defying The Odds: Life of A Female Fighter Pilot

My guest today is Meagan Flannigan.

Meagan is a Retired Commander in the United States Navy with over 20 years of service and over 1200 hours flying the famed F-14 Tomcat and F-18 Super Hornet. She was deployed in the Arabian Gulf aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt in 2005 and 2006 and the documentary Speed and Angels follows her and a fellow naval aviator through their process of becoming fighter pilots.

We discuss how Top Gun changed her life as a young girl and the exact instant she knew she wanted to be a fighter pilot, how realistic the movie Top Gun is, how she rose through an extraordinarily competitive career as the only woman or one of a few women in every room, the challenges that she faced, what it's like living on an aircraft carrier, her missions in Iraq and what it's like to land a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier.

It was an honor to sit down with Meagan; I hope you enjoy.
